This hinges on how we define "work" and what part of that is meaningful work.
The alternating hope and fear of AI taking our jobs or it freeing us from daily toil seems underwritten by the idea that no one actually wants to work, or that drudgery is the only means by which to support your life.
But "work" adds to a meaningful life, if that work is meaningful, that is.
This is the problem with the productivity culture: we focus on how productive we are in the task, and not on how meaningful the task is and whether it's worth being productive in.
